Naomi is a Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. She studied psychology and sociology at the University of Toronto. She then went on to explore theological studies at several seminaries and completed her Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy while living in California.
In her work, Naomi values the expertise of the client. She believes that each of us is the expert of our own experience, and thus we can find solutions to our problems within ourselves. She is there to facilitate that journey and provide assistance as needed.
Naomi believes that the experiences we had early on in life often shape and form many patterns of behaviour that we engage in today, even if we are not conscious of it. We cope with stressors in the ways we were taught, and sometimes we don't realize that there are alternatives to what we have learned. As we become more aware of what we do, we can start to also become aware of other options that might be preferable. Change is always possible.
Naomi provides couples counselling to:
- Prepare couples who are entering committed relationships/marriage
- Assist couples in overcoming repetitive problems
- Help couples begin to experience each other in new and different ways
- Help couples recover from affairs
- Resolve communication challenges
Naomi's special interests when counselling individuals include:
- Recovery from emotional trauma
- Dealing with grief or loss
- Affair recovery and relationship breakups
- Coping with depression and anxiety
- The use of mindfulness based practices
Naomi values your wisdom and the insight that you bring about yourself. Naomi views you as a whole being, not broken, even though you may feel differently...she believes you are perfectly imperfect. Naomi believes you are empowered to create change in your life and can facilitate this journey.
Naomi attempts to live mindfully in each moment, being aware of herself as best she can, and being conscious of how her choices impact her self, others, and the earth. In addition to being a psychotherapist, she makes time to read, to take walks in any kind of weather, to enjoy the presence of loved ones, and to eat chocolate.
