Frequently Asked Questions
I've never been to therapy before, what's it like?
At your first session, there will be some paperwork to be completed and I will want to know more about your situation and what you think will help. The paperwork usually takes about 20 minutes to complete, so please come early.
Some people feel anxious thinking about talking to a complete stranger, and to feel a little nervous is normal. A therapist can assist you in feeling at ease by providing a safe place where you can say anything without feeling judged.
We will talk together for about 45-50 minutes and then you can decide what you would like to do next. Going to therapy is completely voluntary.
How long does it take?
I encourage you to keep coming as long as it's helping you. At the start of therapy, we will set goals and usually end when our goals are met. We may assess our progress along the way and modify our goals, but the idea is that we are targeting a specific and realistic change, and once we've made that change, you can decide if you're done or if you want to set new goals and continue.
Some people find that a few sessions is all they need. Others enjoy long term therapy. It's up to you to decide what works for you.
How much does it cost?
Each session is $160 (HST included). If you are under financial hardship and are committed to doing the work, please discuss this further with me to see if alternative payment options are possible.
Will my insurance benefits cover the cost?
Most insurance companies will provide coverage for psychotherapeutic services. Please contact me for details.
